Discreet Invisalign in Thornton, CO

The Discreet Path To A Straighter Smile

Does your less-than-perfect smile impact your self-confidence? If you hide your smile because of misaligned teeth or gaps, you may want to consider orthodontic treatment. And no, we’re not talking about uncomfortable metal braces! At Trembath Dentistry, we offer Invisalign clear aligners to our patients in Thornton to straighten teeth without the hassle of braces.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligner trays to gradually shift the teeth into the desired position – no wires or metal brackets in sight! The aligners are made from an FDA-approved thermoplastic material that is BPA-free and non-toxic, making it a safe option for straightening your teeth. The Invisalign system uses advanced digital imaging technology to capture digital impressions of your teeth, avoiding those nasty goopy impressions that leave most of us gagging. The software will then map out an ideal treatment plan, which will be used as the basis for fabricating your customized series of aligners.

How Does it Work?

When you come to Trembath Dentistry for Invisalign in Thornton, CO, we approach your case individually. However, below is a general outline of what you can expect during the course of your treatment:

You’ll meet Dr. Trembath for your initial evaluation, during which she’ll check the condition of your teeth and gums to ensure you’re a good candidate. Once she’s confirmed you’ll be able to move forward with treatment, she’ll capture digital impressions of your teeth. These will be used to plan out your treatment and will show you the expected progression of your teeth and estimated treatment duration.

Once your treatment plan is confirmed, your impressions will be sent to the lab for fabrication. When we receive your aligners back from the lab, you’ll get a call from us to come in for your first fitting. Dr. Trembath will instruct you on when to switch out your trays and answer any questions you may have. We’ll also schedule your first follow-up appointment.

You will generally switch to the next set of aligners every 2 weeks. Each set is slightly different from the last, changing as your teeth start to shift. When your treatment is complete (which can range from 6 to 18 months, depending on your case), you will be sent home with a retainer. This should be worn regularly at first and then eventually only at night. Dr. Trembath will provide you with specific instructions regarding retainers.

What are the Benefits?

Invisalign can produce the same results as braces in patients with mild to moderate misalignments. It can correct anything from crooked teeth and overbites to gaps and underbites. Severe malocclusions may still require metal braces, so Dr. Trembath would refer you to an orthodontist. Over and above its ability to tackle most orthodontic issues, Invisalign offers several additional benefits:

  • The clear plastic material makes Invisalign a discreet solution, as it’s rarely noticeable to those around you.
  • Clear aligners are much more comfortable than braces, as there are no brackets or wires irritating the soft tissues in the mouth.
  • Braces can limit the types of foods you can enjoy for the duration of your treatment. This means you may be forced to steer clear of hard and chewy foods to avoid damaging the braces. Adult patients may also be encouraged to avoid staining foods like wine or coffee as this can leave marks on the teeth around the brackets. Aligners, on the other hand, can be removed at meal times, giving you the freedom to enjoy all your favorite foods.
  • On that note, it is easier to maintain proper oral hygiene when you opt for clear aligners. Being able to remove them and get to all areas of the teeth and gums with ease means you’re way less at risk for cavities and decay than you would be with braces.
  • Adults with professional commitments can continue their daily activities without being hampered by metal braces. If you’ve got a photoshoot or need to deliver a presentation, simply remove your aligners briefly.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Almost every teen or adult patient can benefit from Invisalign! However, certain attributes can improve your end results:

  • Patients should be in good health with no active gum disease or cavities. That’s why it’s important to see Dr. Trembath for a check-up before your Invisalign consultation to ensure your mouth is healthy.
  • You should practice good oral hygiene habits, including twice daily brushing and flossing. It’s essential to maintain oral hygiene and keep your aligners clean throughout your treatment.
  • Patients should be able to commit to wearing the aligners for between 20 and 22 hours per day. Ideally, they should only be removed for eating, drinking hot beverages, or brushing their teeth. Failure to do this can prolong treatment and hinder your results.
  • Generally, Invisalign is only indicated for teenagers and adults. The reason is two-fold. First, children’s teeth and jaws are still developing, making this kind of orthodontic treatment unsuitable for their growing mouths. Second, children are less likely to adhere to the treatment protocol of wearing the aligners for 22 hours a day, which makes a permanent orthodontic treatment like braces more viable.
